CBT can be delivered in a number of ways. At YES therapies, we offer therapy face to face, over the phone or via skype. Commonly, people ask why you would do therapy any way other than face to face. This is a very good question and one which is ultimately answered by preference. There is little evidence to suggest that therapy delivered in any way other than face to face is less effective and in fact there is a growing body of research showing that therapy delivered over the phone, Skype and online (typed) is equally as valid and effective as face to face. Ultimately, if you want to see someone face to face, then that’s okay. On the other hand, telephone or skype can be a more convenient way of seeing your therapist and an added benefit of telephone or skype is that, as it is possible to reduce the overheads, the price can be kept lower per session.
To benefit from therapy online all you need a is device to which you can receive Skype calls, a pen and paper for notes and a private space you feel comfortable to talk in. This makes online therapy a great option for those who would find attending regular sessions in a specific setting more diffiucult whether that's due to childcare, disability or travel difficulties.
In therapy it is important that you have regular sessions and as such it is expected that you agree a schedule of sessions (usually weekly) and attend these as consistently as possible. During the session it is helpful to be open and honest but there is no expectation that you'll know what to say or where to start- it's the therapist's job to ask the right questions! It is useful to make notes whilst working on a subject but you will be emailed any information or worksheets which would be helpful to discuss.
